The
Bat & Ball
The Bat & Ball was bought by Kevin and Sally Macready in the
summer of 2003 who had the old place renovated. The food is
excellent, the environs have been lovingly, tended, the car
park improved and the lighting made good. The banks of the stream
which threatened practically to float the place away in 2002, have
been carefully shored and the gardens have been revamped with new
play buildings. Patio heaters ensure an enjoyable time outside and
the overhead cover ensures a drink in the dry when it is raining.
The Bat is a free house, endorsed by Camra, the real ale
organisation and stocks a wide range of beers and lagers are
available. Families with children are welcome and you can
find out more by clicking here for the Bat's own website.
Pictured here - garden which boasts patio heaters (NB smokers from
1 July 2007) and cover for the not too perfect
weather.
Click on the map
below for some help but please note that there is no direct access
from Shortheath Road! Take the A287 (Firgrove Hill) towards
Hindhead and turn right at the traffic lights (on the corner of
Annie's Antique Shop) into Ridgeway Road which becomes Shortheath
Road. About 1½ miles along, turn left into Sandrock Hill Road and
after another half mile or so, left into Upper Bourne Lane. But
beware, Upper Bourne Lane is an unmade road so watch the
suspension! Bat & Ball Lane is signed and is the first sharp
left hand turn.
